02 ICC-UAE Commission on Customs & Trade Facilitation General Assembly Meeting 31st January 2017 Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry ICC-UAE Commission on Customs & Trade Facilitation General Assembly Meeting was held on Tuesday, 31st January 2017 from 8.00 to 10.00 at Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

During the meeting, the 2016 report of the ICC - UAE Commission on Customs & Trade Facilitation was presented and approved its action plan for the year 2017. The members of the Commission also elected the new Steering Committee.
03 9th E-Services Excellence Awards 1st February 2017 Atlantis, The Palm ICC-UAE participated as a supporting organization at the 9th E – Services Excellence Award (ESEA), held under the patronage of H. H. Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai. The ESEA is an annual appreciation ceremony which aims to encourage the conversion to the online channels for doing business, and awarded the highest adopters of Dubai Trade’s e-Services.
04 ICC-UAE Commission on Arbitration & ADR General Assembly Meeting 12th February 2017 Capital Club, DIFC, Dubai ICC-UAE Commission on Arbitration & ADR General Assembly Meeting was held on Sunday, 12th February 2017 from 8.00 to 10.00 at Capital Club, DIFC, Dubai.

During the meeting, the 2016 report of the ICC - UAE Commission on Arbitration & ADR was presented and approved its action plan for the year 2017. The members of the Commission also elected the new Steering Committee.
05 ICC-UAE Commission on Banking General Assembly Meeting 15th February 2017 Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry ICC-UAE Commission on Banking General Assembly Meeting was held on Wednesday, 15th February 2017 from 8.00 to 10.00 at Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

During the meeting, the 2016 report of the ICC - UAE Commission on Banking was presented and approved its action plan for the year 2017. The members of the Commission also elected the new Steering Committee.
06 ICC-UAE Commission on Banking 2nd Steering Committee Meeting 15th March 2017 Commercial Bank of Dubai, Head Office ICC-UAE Commission on Banking 2nd Steering Committee Meeting was held on 15th March 2017 at Commercial Bank of Dubai, Head Office. The meeting took place to discuss the progress and future plans of the Commission.
07 ICC NC Permanent Heads Meeting 22nd – 23rd March 2017 London The Secretary General and the Director attended the Permanent Heads Meeting of National Committees held on 22nd - 23rd March 2017 in London.
08 ICC-UAE Commission on Customs & Trade Facilitation 2nd Steering Committee Meeting 28th March 2017 ICC-UAE Office ICC-UAE Commission on Customs & Trade Facilitation 2nd Steering Committee Meeting was held on 28th March 2017 at ICC-UAE Office. The meeting took place to discuss the progress and future plans of the Commission.
09 ICC Afghanistan Delegation 2nd April 2017 ICC-UAE Office A delegation organized by ICC Afghanistan and headed by the Chairman of ICC Afghanistan, Mr. Mayel Agha Khairkhwah met with ICC-UAE Secretariat on April 2, 2017 at ICC-UAE Office. As ICC Afghanistan is a newly established National Committee of ICC, the delegation discussed the organization and operations of ICC-UAE which is a decade old national committee and considered as one of the most active national committee in the Middle East region. The visiting delegation expressed an interest to exchange delegations in the future. The delegation also mentioned that the members of ICC Afghanistan are keen to attend future ICC-UAE events. Both national committees agreed to build a mechanism for the implementation on further cooperation. At the end the Chairman of ICC Afghanistan was presented a memento and was thanked for visiting ICC-UAE.
10 Meeting with John Danilovich, ICC Secretary General 3rd April 2017 Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry ICC-UAE recently hosted John Danilovich, Secretary General of the Paris-based International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s head office for a meeting to discuss key areas of mutual cooperation.

During the meeting, H.E. Humaid Mohamed Ben Salem, ICC-UAE Chairman, highlighted the organisation’s role in promoting the competitiveness of the UAE’s business community and achieving the ICC’s objectives of promoting and facilitating global trade.

Danilovich updated ICC-UAE members on the granting of UN General Assembly Observer Status to the ICC and other developments related to the ICC’s International Court of Arbitration.

The ICC-UAE Secretary General added that the organisation will host the next semi-annual meeting of the Customs and Trade Facilitation Commission at the Dubai Chamber’s head office on May 17th and May 18th. The meeting will focus on the commission’s strategic work agenda on customs, trade facilitation, transport and logistics, further building on the discussions at the last meeting in November 2016.
11 5th ICC MENA Conference on International Arbitration 3rd – 5th April 2017 Park Hyatt Hotel, Dubai ICC-UAE participated as supporting organization in 5th ICC MENA Conference in International Arbitration on 3rd – 5th April 2017 at Park Hyatt Hotel, Dubai, UAE. This fifth annual conference has been a “must attend” for arbitration professionals who wanted to keep up to date on the latest arbitration developments in the MENA region. The conference offered a line-up of top-class speakers, topical discussions and relevant news. The conference is also an excellent opportunity to network.
12 London Institute of Banking & Finance examinations on CITF, CDCS, CSDG 7th April 2017 Etisalat Academy ICC-UAE hosted the London Institute of Banking & Finance courses examinations namely; CITF, CSDG and CDCS.
13 9th ICC RCG B-MENA 24th April 2017 Tbilisi, Georgia The Secretary General attended the 9th Meeting of the ICC Regional Consultative Group B – MENA held on 24th April at Tbilisi, Georgia.
14 6th Annual Supply Chain ME Strategy Summit 25th – 26th April 2017 Pullman Dubai Creek City Centre Hotel, Dubai ICC – UAE participated as supporting organization in the 6th Annual Supply Chain ME Strategy Summit. The summit talked about the understanding the supply chain function, scope and limitations of integrating IoT, understanding the omnichannel retail effect on the warehouse management, disruptive technologies and global innovative solutions.
15 ICC-UAE Commission on Arbitration & ADR 2nd Steering Committee Meeting 27th April 2017 Capital Club, DIFC, Dubai ICC-UAE Commission on Arbitration & ADR 2nd Steering Committee Meeting took place to discuss the progress and future plans of the Commission.
16 Launch of ICC Revised Rules of Arbitration 11th May 2017 Capital Club, DIFC Dubai, United Arab Emirates The International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the ICC-UAE Commission on Arbitration and ADR launched the ICC Revised Rules of Arbitration and the Second Edition of Summaries of UAE Courts' Decisions on Arbitration (Including DIFC Courts) held on 11th May 2017 at Capital Club, Dubai, UAE.

Amendments to the ICC Rules of Arbitration have been made with the aim of further increasing the efficiency and transparency of ICC arbitrations. The revised rules apply from 1 March 2017. They provide for expedited procedure rules for cases of lower value. The main changes will be introduced with a strong focus on features of the expedited procedure including substantive and procedural aspects.

Arbitration in the UAE continues to evolve and the number of local and international cases has grown considerably since the first edition of this book was published in 2013. The second edition of the book on UAE Courts’ decisions on arbitration comprises 40 carefully selected judgments (2012 – 2016) from the Federal Supreme Court, the Abu Dhabi Court of Cassation, the Dubai Court of Cassation and the DIFC Courts. The main developments relating to arbitration case law in the UAE was presented.
17 ICC Customs & Trade Facilitation Commission Meeting & Forum 17-18th May 2017 Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry Dubai, United Arab Emirates ICC-UAE, Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry and ICC organized its Customs and Trade Facilitation Commission Meeting held on Wednesday, 17 May (afternoon) and Thursday, 18 May (full day) 2017 at Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

During the meeting the Commission continued its strategic work agenda on customs, trade facilitation, transport and logistics, further building on the discussions at the last meeting in November 2016.

The meeting held back-to-back with a Customs and Trade Facilitation Forum co-organized by the ICC-UAE and Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry in partnership with ICC on the morning of 17 May 2017. To make it even more interesting, ICC arranged for its members a tour of the Jebel Ali Free Trade Zone – one of the fastest growing free trade zones – took place the day before the Commission meeting on 16 May 2017.
18 6th ICC-UAE General Assembly Meeting 12th July 2017 Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry Dubai, United Arab Emirates During the meeting the reports of ICC UAE Commissions on Arbitration, Customs & Trade Facilitation and Banking was presented and the new board of directors of ICC-UAE was elected for the next two years.
19 GCC VAT Forum 11th-12th September 2017 The Address Hotel, Dubai Marina, U.A.E. ICC UAE participated as a supporting organization to the 3rd GCC VAT Forum held on 11th – 12th September 2017 at The Address Hotel, Dubai Marina, UAE. Tax Experts from the Big 4 advisories (EY, KPMG, PwC, Deloitte) gathered alongside with CFOs and Heads of Finance from leading companies in the GCC that helped understand the nuances of the regulations and the compliance or how to comply with these regulations. The 3rd edition provided interaction and networking opportunities with the Big 4 on how to develop an effective VAT business model in time and overcome any challenges arising from VAT implementation and planning.
20 Launch of the new ICC Court's representative office in Abu Dhabi 13th September 2017 Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), Al Maryah Island, Abu Dhabi, UAE The International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has announced the opening of a representative office uniquely for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region held on 13th September 2017. The new office is established in Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), an international financial centre located at Al Maryah Island in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

The move is the latest in a series of measures undertaken by the Court to expand operations worldwide.

Offering world class dispute resolution services for users in MENA, the new representative office is expected to become operational by January 2018. On-site staff will be on hand to accept the registration of arbitration cases under the ICC Rules, which will then be administered by one of the ICC Court Secretariat's existing case management teams. According to statistics, 56 parties from UAE were involved in cases filed with the ICC Court in 2016, ranking among the top 20 most frequent nationalities among parties.
21 5th Annual Procurement Strategy Summit 11th-12th October 2017 Dubai ICC UAE participated as a supporting organization to the 5th Annual Procurement Summit held on 11th – 12th October 2017 at Roda Al Murooj Hotel, Dubai, UAE. This year, the conference focused on a unique insight into successfully managing procurement strategies in vulnerable & volatile markets, contract management, latest innovations and technologies and more, a highly effective platform to keep up-to date with the latest developments, market trends and hot topics, that engaged in a much-needed discussions concerning issues related to innovation, competitiveness, sustainability and regulation in procurement.
22 Global Trade Development Week 30th October – 1st November 2017 Intercontinental Hotel, Festival City, Dubai, UAE GTDW 2017 UAE under the theme of ‘Navigating Global Trade & Reviving Global Growth' is the largest international cross donor, government & private sector trade facilitation summit & exhibition of 2017 that facilitated TFA capacity building & implementation between the public & private sector. Heads of over 40 of the world’s leading donor agencies and development banks were invited to participate at GTDW 2017 as well as global business leaders from leading private sector organisations at the forefront of international trade and commerce.

Held under the Patronage of His Excellency Saeed Al Mansoori, Minister of Economy, UAE & lead partner Federal Customs Authority, UAE, this year’s edition was hosted at Intercontinental Hotel, Festival City, Dubai welcoming over 1500 international public & private sector delegates combined with 40 leading exhibitors for a week of summit programs, workshops, exhibition, networking, G2G & B2B networking and site visits to leading trade locations in the UAE.
23 ICC Conference on Construction Arbitration 15th November, 2017 Capital Club, DIFC, Dubai, UAE The ICC International Court of Arbitration with the support of ICC United Arab Emirates organized a conference dedicated to construction arbitration.

This half day conference took place during the Dubai Arbitration Week from 12 to 16 November 2017 and gathered international arbitration construction experts to interact with the participants and to share their respective experience on how to manage construction contracts and construction disputes. ICC Representatives also provided the audience with the salient issues in ICC Emergency Arbitration proceedings in construction disputes.
24 6th ICC UAE Trade Finance Conference 20th November 2017 Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Dubai, UAE ICC-UAE organized on Monday, 20th November, 2017 the 6th ICC-UAE Trade Finance Conference. The past five conferences received overwhelming support and response with more than 600 delegates attending the Conference since 2011.

Held in association with Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the Conference provided an economic and finance overview, regional development impacting trade finance, trade finance tools, fintech & trade finance digitalization and many more topics of local and international interests that are relevant to business to work more efficiently, safely and proactively in our ever changing and challenging world of Trade Finance.
