SUMMARY

Anja is a UAE-based UK qualified lawyer and independent arbitrator with more than 20 years of experience in the MENA region. Anja specialises in commercial, corporate, family business, property, real estate and construction advice and disputes.


EDUCATION AND DESIGNATIONS

Anja graduated from Cambridge University (BA and MA). She obtained a further MA in European Business before qualifying as a UK solicitor and being admitted to the Law Society. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and of the Asian Institute of Alternative Dispute Resolution and sits on the Members Panel of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. She is a full Member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioner as well as of the Institute of Linguists and the Chartered Institute of Marketing.


BUSINESS EXPERIENCE

Prior to joining the legal profession, Anja spent several years in management at a leading US media firm where she focussed on establishing the firm’s European presence. She developed a strong practical business background which she applies to all aspects of her legal and arbitration practice.


LEGAL EXPERIENCE

After qualifying as a solicitor and practising in the corporate group of the Magic Circle City firm Hogan Lovells for nearly a decade, Anja moved to join Al Tamimi in the UAE where she set up the well-regarded Family Business Practice.

Anja spent nearly fifteen years as Group and Family General Counsel for the Lootah family (a family-owned regional conglomerate). In this role, Anja managed all contentious and non-contentious legal affairs for the many companies and businesses comprising the Lootah Group and advised on establishing a global Family Office.

At the same time Anja sat as an independent arbitrator and party representative in numerous regional disputes. Accordingly, Anja is familiar with Shari’a business requirements and disputes.


BOLZ ARBITRATION UAE

Anja founded Bolz Arbitration in 2009 as an independent specialised arbitration practice to use her experience to assist regional parties who have selected arbitration as their preferred method of dispute resolution. Anja focusses on providing cost-effective, efficient and timely results.

She is a Panel Arbitrator for the Dubai International Arbitration Centre; the former DIFC-LCIA Arbitration Centre; the Abu Dhabi ADGM Arbitration Centre; the London Court of International Arbitration; the Saudi Centre for Commercial Arbitration as well as the Asian Institute of Alternative Dispute Resolution and is also a List Arbitrator for the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre

Anja is a German national and a native speaker of English and German. She is also fluent in Spanish, French and Dutch.
